  • Robert E. Lee was the commander of the Confederate Army (Army of Northern Virginia)
  • Opposed secession but belived that the Union sould not be held together by force

  • Lee surrenderd to Grant at Appomatox Court House in Virginia

  • Was asked by Lincoln to lead Union forces but refused because he didn't want to fight aginst his family in Virginia.
  • Lee urged all Southerners to reunite as Americans after the Civil War.








  • Born January 19th 1807 died October 12th 1870.
  • Deceased but remembered
  • He may have tried to destroy the Union, but he sure did a good job of it.
